Cross Correlate Temp and CO2
Notes:
The green line is the correlation of CO2 levels to past temperatures, while the magenta line is the correlation of CO2 levels to future temperatures. Because the green line is consistently above the magenta line, for any Δt (bottom time scale), CO2 levels are always more correlated to past temperatures than they are to future temperatures.
This is mostly true for the Vostok CH4 data as well. When the DomeC Ice core data is processed, this is true for CO2 and CH4 at all times, providing that the smoothing is sufficient to eliminate effects of aliasing. This difference seems to be due to a temporal difference between the CH4 levels extracted from the Vostok and DomeC data. This isn't unexpected since the DomeC core data has been processed more recently, is sampled at a finer resolution, uses better methods and in general, is more correct.
