This slide shows the strong dependence between the global average surface temperature and the global average surface reflectance.

Both the short term changes within a year and the long changes across years are strongly correlated. Despite the calibration change in surface temperature measurements around 2001/2002 and the error in reflectivity measurements between 1994 and 1995, the overall relationship is still very apparent.
