Notes:
There's a small peak in the magenta plot at a Δt at about 200 years. This would seem to indicate a correlation of CO2 to future temperatures. However, this is preceded by an even stronger dip, which indicates a strong correlation between increasing CO2 and future temperature decreases.
Both of these are an artifact of temperature samples being closer together than CO2 samples and the CO2 is being correlated across a period of temperature variability.
Once the appropriate smoothing is applied, this artifact disappears and the actual dependencies emerge.
