This is a plot of the Vostok data from the last 15K years with 1500 year smoothing applied.

When plots of this interval are compared with and without smoothing, there's little change to the CO2 data. This is because the CO2 samples are already 1000-1500 year averages. The only effect smoothing has on CO2 samples is to smooth the transitions between them.
